Position: Outdoor School Instructor (OSI)
Description: The OSI is responsible for teaching the
Wildwood Outdoor Education Center curriculum to students, typically in
grades 4-6. The curriculum is taught to the OSI during a
four day training session prior to students arriving.
The OSI also facilitates on the Adventure Challenge
Course (ACC). The ACC is a course of thirty plus
elements constructed to teach students leadership,
communication, problem solving, and much more. The OSI
also assist with evening programming, ending around 8:30
pm, 2-4 nights a week:
- Compensation: $2,250
plus room and board
- Start Date: March 24, 2008
- End Date: May 23, 2008
- If candidates perform well they may be offered
the opportunity to carry employment
through the
summer and spring seasons

Position: Cook
Description: Food service employees for the Wildwood
kitchen are directly responsible to the Executive
Directors. Beginning compensation depends upon
experience but is in the range of $6 to $8 per hour. The
responsibilities for this position include, but are not
limited to:
-
Representing the Wildwood Outdoor Education Center
in philosophy and attitudes in working with all
visitors (student and/or adult), teachers,
counselors, administrators and members of the
Wildwood Board of Directors

Preparing meals and washing dishes for 30 to 110
participants and staff
-
Willingness to fill in for co-workers during times
of personal emergencies or illnesses
-
Willingness to help prepare the kitchen for use at
beginning of season, i.e. giving kitchen and store
room a thorough cleaning prior to the first group of
the season’s arrival. End of the season
responsibilities include closing down the kitchen,
which involves cleaning out walk-in refrigeration
unit, properly storing all remaining food items and
kitchen equipment

Position: Summer Camp Counselor/Educator
Description: The Summer Camp Counselor position is
required to be residential. The counselor resides in
one of the living units with campers. During the day
the staff teaches educational classes and/or lead
recreational activities.

The Wildwood Summer Program
will operate from June 1 - August 1, 2008. Included
in this time will be a week of staff training and
then eight camp sessions; five Summer Learning, two
co-ed Summer Adventure sessions, and one all girls
session (Women Of Wildwood W.O.W)

There will also be an optional
training for those wishing to Facilitate on the
Adventure Challenge Ropes Course (May 29-30) and/or
get Lifeguard Certified (May 21-23, 2008)

The salary for the seven week
position will be $1700.00 plus room and board with
additional pay increases based on experience and
certifications. The one week extension contracts
(for W.O.W only) will be offered at a salary of
$212.50

Position:
Adventure Challenge Facilitator
Description: The Wildwood Adventure Challenge
Facilitator is responsible to the Director of Adventure
Programming. Although the Adventure Challenge
Facilitator will mainly be responsible for
facilitating on Wildwood’s ropes course, the Adventure
Challenge Facilitator may be involved in all of
Wildwood’s programming needs, including leading
educational and recreational activities during
Wildwood’s spring and fall Outdoor School Program,
during the summer residential camps and school programs,
as well as hosting weekend groups. Compensation based
upon experience and successful completion of training.
Responsibilities and Duties include but are not limited
to:
- Participate in and successfully complete staff
training and ongoing training workshops throughout
the season
- Keep current on all aspects of the Adventure
Challenge program in order to meet the overall goals
of Wildwood as described in programming literature
- Conduct ongoing evaluations and observations of
Adventure Challenge participant's performance
- Supervise participants until they are released
to their schools teachers or individual in charge of
all students
- Assist in preparing lunches, organizing
equipment and clean-up at the end of the day
- Coordination and greeting groups as they arrive
to participate on the Adventure Challenge course
- Communicate the need for maintenance of the
Adventure Challenge course structures to insure
safety and usability to the Director of Adventure
Programming
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Professionally represent Wildwood in attitude and
philosophy in all communications with Kansas City
area educational communities, with the Wildwood
Board of Directors and with all Wildwood staff
members

Greet school groups and weekend groups
enthusiastically and work with these groups to make
their stay at Wildwood a pleasant and enjoyable
experience
Wildwood’s Adventure Challenge Facilitator’s must
realize that their duties will vary with the time of
year and the responsibilities may include duties not
specifically listed on this description. All Wildwood
staff are expected to help with cleanup needs at camp,
and to otherwise help with any activity or need that
occurs as part of programming at Wildwood.
